Location: BWI Airport, MD
The design included electrical, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm system, power distribution, lighting for public and office areas, telephones, security for aviation exhibition area and observation lounge, and elevator upgrades.
Provided new air handling unit and modified the existing air distribution duct system to provide sufficient heating and cooling for the renovated observation lounge. The fire protection system included addition of sprinkler and standpipe system in the new observation lounge area and sprinkler system in adjacent corridors.
Provided new addressable fire alarm system including smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, flow switches, tamper switches, monitoring modules, control modules, ADA complied horns and strobes. A new fire alarm panel was designed under the guidance of Airport fire department headquarters for display of individual device address and description.
All lounge stairs were made secure as per NFPA 101 and local police requirements. A sound room involving amplifier and speakers was designed for displays during public entertainment shows. CCTV cameras were provided. A card access system for normal use was designed. The door locks were designed to open during fire emergency. Passenger elevator was upgraded for ADA and tied to new fire alarm panel for elevator recall system.
